[This voice sounds... like you are talking to Guyman himself. Musical and modulated, and kind of sort of loud]

Since when did Cybertron have grass? Or... y'know still be here? The fact that it's still... I mean that it's not... y'know really... dead and stuff is sort of-

NO REALLY WHY IS THERE GRASS HERE?

[He sounds pretty disturbed by this]

Not that grass is bad! I like grass, it was great on earth, if... y'know anyone here has been there at all, but like- Is that a farm? ... There's a tiny farm he- Did anyone see the tiny farm? Oh my god, I have to get a picture of this no wait, hold on.

Sure! Are you gonna be okay with the Gateways? I ask cause unless you really want to look around the farm some more, you should meet me at the Gateway nearest the hospital, up in the Northwest.

[The feed cuts! And in spite of arriving on her stree'doo, Sam---helmeted, but immediately recognizable on account of her shirt and ink---comes through the Gateway maybe fifteen minutes later.]

[Sure enough, he's already there, bright white, sky blue and yellow, impossible to miss. He's checking out the hospital, readouts flying across the visor as he peers into the windows]

[While Soundwave's snooping about, Sam's just gonna park, (far enough from the Gateway to be sure no Cybertronian will come through and trip over her ride,) stand, and stow her helmet.]

Hey! How's shakes?

[He looks around quickly, then looks down, appearing surprised]

Oh hey! Uh... who?

[Sam starts over, to at least approximate a conversational distance (elevation is another matter). From the first few steps, she shows a slight limp but doesn't seem to be in any discomfort.]

Sorry. It's just another way of asking 'how are things with you?'

Oh! Okay... Is that like from a movie? I musta missed that o-

Hey! You're limping! Are you okay? You need some help? I mean I don't have much of a palm or anything but I can still hold you

Not that I know of? Just slang I picked up... somewhere. I probably should try to use less slang what with being on the far side of space, but---

[She'll hold up her hands, shaking her head before offering Soundwave a reassuring smile.]

It's okay, I'm okay, it's old, old news. Six going on seven years ago, I did a number on my leg, and the way it was tended to left... a lot to be desired. So I move a little slower than I might, but it doesn't actually hurt or anything.

Oh... Well.. okay well as long as it doesn't hurt you or anything that's fine I mean... Yeah.

I do appreciate your concern. Probably everybody else was trying to be polite, but you're the first person to ask right away and just immediately offer me a lift.

[Sam turns away, tilting her head down and pushing her hair up away from the nape of her neck with one hand.]

Hopefully you can see okay through the little bit of hair there, there's two bars above everything else? Those two, and the two directly under them.

[He kneels down and starts looking carefully, slowly stringing along the notes. Despite it being so tiny, she might start to hear the notes to O Canada being played gently on what almost sounds like a synthesizer.]

Glad you're so willing to try to. We're all stuck in the same boat, so it's important.

[The notation's only to 'our home and native land' (or would be, if the words were there) but it's still enough to identify the song. Soundwave won't be able to see it until Sam turns back to him, but the girl's grinning.]

That's okay! I'm still getting some stuff, so that's fine! I don't think I have any access to earths frequencies from here y'know... if it's even in existence right now. So I can't really look it all up

[Now Sam turns, though her grin has faded into a small, sympathetic smile.]

Y'know how I said I could confirm the Miasma is not good juju? I spent most of my first month here scrounging up the components for a communications ritual which is supposed to be able to reach anybody, anywhere. I know it can get a message to an addressee on the opposite side of a planet, but on this planet? Its range seems limited by the Miasma; I think it interferes with everything.

But in better news, there's a library here with all sorts of stuff from a bunch of times and places, so we could check it for the full song sometime. If you want...?

A communications ritual. Kind of a weird one, but when it works, it works well.

Y'know, monitor signals for Autobot frequencies, search for strange readings, pilot the ship, keep our firewalls maintained and keep us hidden from humans and Autobots.

Tech stuff.

Involved. [Sam smooths a hand over her hair, aware it wasn't a very helpful answer.] You take a page out of an epistolary novel that's had every noun and verb blacked out, and you use a feather from a rooster which can't crow to write to whoever on it with lemon juice. Whoever you're addressing it to, you have to use whatever that person was first introduced to you as---might not even be their real name, doesn't matter.

Once you've got the paper addressed, you have to wet it with seawater, sweat, or tears to the point it's soggy enough to hold an impression, and stamp your message into it. The way I learned, a person used scrabble tiles; I've been using wood blocks, since I never found a scrabble set. You have to finish before the paper dries, and then shove it into a bottle, and stop the bottle up with cork. You then have to coat the entire bottle in wax, preferably white, and carve a sign [she gestures; it's a circle, with a line across the middle] in the wax over the cork.

After all that, you've got to chuck it into a river and watch it until it's out of sight. The next time your addressee goes to take up a blank piece of paper, or turns to a blank page, or opens a word processing document, or goes to compose an email or text? The message is there, until the book is closed or the window minimized.

[Like she said; involved. But, for a ritual as useful as the bottled message ritual can be... well worth it.]

First thing you're gonna do; calm down. There'll be stuff. Stuff like library research, exploring, talking to people to learn about the different realities, getting yourself settled in, projects like the drone mods and whatever you cook up with Wheeljack and Hiro...

Oh maaaan I can't handle not having something to do!

[OKAY NO CALM DOWN. SHE'S RIGHT. He'll have the drone modding and library research to do. That's... that's two things right? And exploring, he can go take pictures of everything. Get information on different realities. Relax, calm down!]

Okay no I'm calm, I'm totally calm, no big deal. I can just do like... two things... At a time. Or one thing. And y'know just really concentrate on it.
