1st Bite [Video]

[dirge]

[The screen flicks on, but there seems to be something wrong with a it. A long crack runs down the right side, fragmenting the image. The color also seems off, though its hard to tell if you haven't seen the speaker's paintjob before.]

Oh, you do still work. Hm.

[A big seeker of a less boxy variety than most leans in and raps on the screen with a knuckle, sending the drone drifting backwards with a distressed beep.]


I'll have to go find a bigger rock.

[He pauses in his search for a rock when someone addresses him via the drone.]

I am! It's surprisingly resilient.

[What? But...Why?]

Any...particular reason you're trying to destroy it?

[dirge]

Not destroy it. Just break it. They said I would be issued a new one if my current drone got damaged.

[knight_light]

[Wing gives him a funny look] If you wanted a new one you just had to take that one to the Chief Engineer.

[dirge]

[He's pretty used to getting funny looks from other cybertronians.]

I'm not going to give this one back to him! [Dirge looks appalled at the very thought.]

No, he can bring a new one to me. And I will keep them both.

[knight_light]

[Dirge.....you're a special kind of strange.]

And...you never considered just asking for a second one? Rather than damaging one? Then you'd have had two that worked...

[dirge]

Oh, I did! Right after they gave this one to me. But they said I could only have another if this one was damaged.

[Now do you understand, Wing? Dirge thinks its a pretty simple concept, but everyone has been so confused by his behavior.]

[knight_light]

[Well...what does he say to that?]

[dirge]

Why wouldn't I? Two isn't all I want though. I'd like to get my hands on many more.

[He clasps his talons together, looking quite pleased by the prospect.]

[knight_light]

What do you want so many comm drones for?

[dirge]

Because having things is what I do! And these seem useful, which makes them more valuable.

[knight_light]

[.....and he laughs. You greedy bastard. Well, at least he thinks he's got you figured out.]

So you just want them to have them? That's all?

[dirge]

Yes, yes! I want to have them very badly. [His grip on the side of the little drone increases, something that often happens when he's feeling particularly avaricious.]

I could collect them, display them, sell them, use them all at once- but really, one doesn't need any other reason to have more of something besides the sheer joy of doing so!

[Crack. Oops, looks like he's broken something off in his excitement. Oh well.]

[knight_light]

You might find selling them hard, considering one of the Guardians builds them, and there is no currency used in this city.

[Amused...he's...going to have to keep an optic on this guy, he could be trouble.]

[dirge]

What about trading? Ah, I see- you mean everyone got one when they got here, didn't they?

[Dirge frowns- that does make them a lot less valuable.]

Perhaps their parts will be worth something.

[knight_light]

[He nods] They did.

[He shrugs] Possible, though I have my doubts on that.

[dirge]

[He emits a frustrated gust of air from his vents at Wing's reply.]

What /is/ of value here then?

[knight_light]

[He can't help but answer with such a tease as this, he mostly wants to see how Dirge answers this.]

[dirge]

[Time? A phrase flits through Dirge's helm, the one about time equaling money.]


Do you mean like...being paid hourly for a service?

[knight_light]

Afraid not. Anyone who works here is a volunteer.

[dirge]

Then how...? [Dirge grits his dentals, sounding quite distressed.]

I don't know if I like this place very much anymore.

[knight_light]

Yes! [And he sounds almost desperate now.]

[Smiles] Then make friends. There is nothing more valuable than having people you can trust.
