[Accidental Video]
[The little drone sent to this new arrival has ended up turned on. She seems to be trying to shoo it away.] N-no. No, go away. Please. [She's whispering, but the tone is desperate and edged with tears.]
[She turns and limps away from the drone, something must be wrong with her right leg. The drone just...follows. When the girl glances back and sees it still coming after her she lets out a sound that's something between a frustrated growl and a whimper.]
L-leave me alone.
[Anyone paying special attention to the surroundings the drone shows may note that this child seems to be somewhere close to The Hub, as they'll be able to spot the Warehouse behind her at least once.]

Well, it doesn't really matter right now. Point is, I am being nice to you, and I'm gonna keep being nice to you. Anybody who has a problem with me helping out a lost little girl, I'll tell them where they can stick that attitude.
Right now, getting you taken care of is more important. It's obvious you're hurt pretty bad. Will you let me take you to my friend Paian? He's a healer, and he'll get you all fixed up in no time. Then, once you're feeling better, we can talk a little more if you want. Alright?

[She looks around like she's thinking of running, but her next step back has her shifting her weight just...wrong and her leg gives out under her. She topples with a cry.]

I don't think we have time to try and find your Papa, Jendayi, if he was brought here too. You need help now, and I'm betting that your Papa would want you fixed up as soon as possible. Once you're better, we'll see if anybody's seen your Papa around. But for now, I've got to take you where I know can get help.
Now, will you please let me take you to Paian? Neither he or I is going to hurt you, even if you do have pointy ears.
[The girl's answer was really immaterial; Lea had already decided that she was going, willing or not, for her own good. But he would much rather have her come willingly, rather than frighten and upset her more, if he could avoid it.]
no subject
He's not carrying her like this, but this is the only 'carrying someone' icon I've got. XD
Lea just looks down at her sadly and sighs softly.]
I wish I knew what I could say or do to convince you that I don't mean you any harm. Guess all I can do for right now is try to prove it. So, up we go...
[Carefully he shifts to get his arms under her- he's dubious about her ability to walk after that fall- and lifts her into a cradle carry. Settling her as comfortably as he can in his arms, he heads for the nearest portal. Her comm drone has caught up with them and floats along after them, right next to Lea's.]
lol She appreciates not being carried like that.
[She ends up kind of clinging to Lea, trembling softly in his arms. She's a tiny thing, no older than eight or nine in appearance, but small even for her age. She'll be a petite one when she grows up.]
[And Lea will note one other thing. There's blood on her left shoulder too...and it's probably starting to seep from her clothes to his. Good thing he's still in black, she'd have ruined his new, more colorful wardrobe.]
I thought she might. X3
He could feel her trembling against him, clinging to him a bit. He also noticed the blood. He'd have to wash the coat later, but at least it wouldn't show too much on black. And anyway, that was the least of his concerns at the moment.
Once they arrived at the portal, he had to shift his hold on her a bit in order to have a hand to operate the gateway's controls. He figured he'd better warn her before he activated it too.]
This is probably gonna look a little weird. But all it is is a really fancy sort of doorway. It'll feel a little tingly going though, but it won't hurt, promise.
[Destination typed in- the gateway right outside the hospital- he activated the controls and gate blazed to life, the opening filling with swirling blueish light. He then stepped away from the controls and passed through the open gateway without incident. As promised, there was a staticky tingle as they passed through, but nothing else. And a moment later the were stepping out the other side in front of the hospital. The gate glowed blue behind them for a moment before shutting down.
Lea headed into the hospital.]
See? Here we are, safe and sound. This is where Paian works. He'll get you all fixed up in no time.
no subject
[She still looks like she'd rather be anywhere but here. She'll look up at him, gaze pleading.] P-please.
And time for Paian to make an appearance. :3
If I knew where your Papa was, I'd happily take you to him. But you're hurt and bleeding and that needs to be taken care of.
...I wish I knew why you're so scared, other than the obvious being in a strange place with strange people. But no one here is going to hurt you. Even if people might have done it back where you're from, no one here has any reason to.
Especially not Paian. I don't think his magic can hurt people; it seems to be just for healing.
[Meanwhile, once they're inside, Lea looks around, seeing if he can spot Paian anywhere. The sooner Jendayi was seen to, the better.]
=3b
[Even away from home she finds it hard to accept that someone won't still try.]
no subject
What happened here? [His tone is gentle as he takes in the clearly hurt and frightened child.]
no subject
No not the kind of thing he should be saying to her.]
Whatever reason they might try to do that doesn't exist here. No one here, human or otherwise, is going to hurt or kill you. I promise.
[Lea is relieved when he spots Paian heading over to him.]
The Miasma just dropped off this little girl; I found her wandering around by the Warehouse. She's hurt pretty bad, so I brought her here. I've been trying to help her understand we won't hurt her, but apparently where she's from, humans tried to kill her before she was brought here.
[Turns back to the little girl in his arms.]
Jendayi, this is my friend, Paian, that I told you about. He's gonna fix you right up, OK?
[Back to Paian]
Um... where do you want me to take her to do that, by the way? Is there a special section for kids or something?
no subject
[Gentle...h-he's being gentle. E-everyone she talked to in the floating thing had...seemed concerned for her... C-could it be true? Or maybe she was sleeping and this was all a strange dream...maybe from the medicine Papa had given her...]
[She was pretty sure she wasn't sleeping...]
[She might look like it now, though, as she settles, curled up in Lea's arms.]
no subject
[He looks up at Lea.] This way. [He'll lead the young man to a room and gesture for him to sit. The child seems to have settled in his arms, and so he figures it may be best to just let Lea hold her for now.]
[He'll pull her shirt aside to get a look at the wound there, and the same at her hip. He's scowling, infuriated that someone would do something so horrible to a child.]
[He'll put a hand to her forehead and start pouring healing energies into the girl.]
no subject
Lea's reaction to getting a clear look at them for the first time himself is similar to Paian's, though more subdued. Years of feigning emotions have their benefits, apparently. For now, he simply sits and watches while Paian does his work, not wanting to do anything that might interfere.]
no subject
[She shivers at the odd sensation from the healing, but doesn't otherwise move...she does open her eyes to gaze up at Lea, since he's the one holding her.]
no subject
All right. She'll need food, fluids, and rest for a bit. Are you going to look after her or do you want to leave her here?
no subject
He nods to Paian's instructions when the healing is complete.]
Think I'll take her back to my place, at least for the time being.
[Even though he has no doubt the little girl would be well taken care of, it feels wrong just to dump her on Paian and the hospital staff, now that the emergency has been dealt with. Still, he glances down at Jendayi to see her reaction to the idea, if any. If she really didn't want to go with him, he wouldn't force her.]
no subject
[Her gaze drops away and she lets herself just tuck into him a little. She's tired, she's scared, and she's with strangers. She just...she just wants this over now. She wants to wake up and be home in her Papa's arms.]
no subject
[With that he'll slip out of the room. They can stay however long they want and leave when ready.]
no subject
Paian's gone before he can say anything though. Ah well. That had waited this long, it'd wait another day or two.
Turning his attention back to Jendayi, he smiled.]
See? What'd I tell you; nothing to worry about.
[There he paused a moment, smile turning a bit sheepish as he stood up to leave.]
I hope you don't mind sleeping on the couch for the night. I mean, I'll fix it up for you, but my apartment was really only meant for one, so there's no spare bed. And we'll have to see about getting you cleaned up a little, and get you some other clothes. The clothes can wait til tomorrow. And the cleaning up can wait til after you eat, since well, doctor's orders and all.
[Yeah, he's babbling a bit as he walks. Because it's just hitting him now that assuming her Papa didn't come along with her (a highly likely possibility), then he may well end up taking care of the kid long term. And he... really wasn't sure he was up to the task.]
no subject
...Thank you.
no subject
Paian's the one who really did all the work. I didn't really do anything any decent person wouldn't have done.
[slight pause] Hope you don't mind but we're gonna have to go through another portal to get back to my place. It'd take way too long to walk there straight.

What is it with you and picking up stray puppies?
What indeed?
Regardless, he lets her rest there til they get to the portal, once again activating it and passing through without incident. Once on the other side, it was only a short walk to the building housing Lea's apartment, and a climb up two flights of stairs to get there. Lea punched in a short key-code to open the door.]
Well, here we are. Home sweet home, kinda.
[It's a small but comfortable three room apartment, with the main room divided up into a living area and kitchenette, with two doors along the left-hand wall leading into a bedroom and bathroom. Lea turns on the lights and finally sets Jendayi down on the couch.]
Go ahead and make yourself comfortable; I'll see about getting you something to eat, OK?
