[Lea seems to be sitting at the table in his apartment, a small pile of cards in front of him.]

Man, I haven't seen Valentine cards this cheesy since I was in grade school. I mean, take a look at this one...

[He holds the card up so that the drone's camera can focus in on it. for a few moments.]

Who else thinks the miasma needs to find another card shop to swipe from?

[For Deckard, most of the cards are so tiny, they're like trying to pick up and read bits of confetti, so he's just not really bothered. Also? His English still isn't /that/ great - he doesn't get the joke, so the card is basically nonsense to him.]

What are Valentine cards?

[Lea's still examining the card, trying to find a brand name or something, and doesn't look up at first.]

They're for a holiday called Valentine's Day, like the news guy said. Basically it's supposed to be a day to celebrate love, especially romantic love. Often times people get those they love gifts; candy, flowers, and greeting cards are popular, but it can really be anything. I was actually making something for Elsa, when...

[He looks up from the card, finally, and is struck for a moment by what he sees. It's Deckard, he knows the bot from the police force back in old Haven. He'd liked the bot well enough, though they'd never been exactly close.

Now, though? He can't take his eyes of the mech. How is he never noticed how handsome the mech was? What a lovely shade of blue he was?

...And why did someone of a totally incompatible species suddenly seem so appealing? Something weird was going on here. But knowing that there was something off about his sudden infatuation didn't make it go away. Nor did it stop his voice from becoming a bit warmer when next he spoke.]

...Ah, yeah. Well, like I said, I was making something for Elsa and decided to take a little break. And I'm... kinda glad I did.

[He sees the sudden change and isn't sure what to make of it.]

Lea, are you feeling all right?

Yes. And no? I dunno...

[Lea rubbed the back of his head, looking rather sheepish.]

Look, I... this is probly gonna sound really stupid, so promise you won't laugh, OK?

Of course. I promise, Lea.

[He's never been one to tease or laugh at friends. Lea feeling the need to specifically request that just makes him more concerned.]

[Lea takes a deep breath.]

OK. Well, I think... I'm in love with you.

[He blushes a little and ducks his head.]

And before you say, yeah, I know it's not normal; cause I wasn't up until just now. Something weird's going on. But... that doesn't change how I feel, you know?

[Laugh? No. Gape in speechless shock for a moment? …sorry, yeah. He'll, uh, recover quickly, though.]

I…I see. An effect of the cards, perhaps? They're from the Miasma, aren't they?

[Lea nods.]

That's my guess, yeah. Just wish I knew what to do about it...

Not that I've got anything against inter-species relationships or anything, it's just that... I kinda already have a girlfriend so this is really awkward.

[Deckard offers a sympathetic grin.]

I won’t tell her if you don’t.

[He’s joking but…also serious. He’d not take matters of the heart lightly, not by /any/ means.]

It’s probably like any of the weird stuff we’ve been through in the past, though. Give it some time, a week or so maybe, and it should dissipate on its own.

[Lea smirks a little... and also looks a bit sheepish.]

I appreciate it.

[And he really does, because he doesn't take them lightly either. Not after living without one for over a decade.]

Man, I hope so. Relationships are complicated enough without magical greeting cards getting involved.

[She's sitting outside with a pile of her own cards.]

I think they're pretty.

[She's even sorting them by colors.]

Yeah, but pretty what? That's the question.

[He chuckles slightly.]

I mean, don't get me wrong; they're colorful and all. But most of these puns and jokes are kind of cringe-worthy.

[She giggles] Just pretty colors. I didn’t know paper could be so many colors.

I’m going to make something out of them.

[Lea smiled. She was going to get quite a surprise when Christmas and birthdays rolled around then.]

Oh? What are you planning to make?

I dunno yet. Something pretty.

Hmmm... maybe you could make them into a giant rainbow heart? They are Valentine cards, after all.

That would be pretty. I have enough I should be able to make lots of pretty things.

That'd be cool. You'll have to show me what you end up making, OK?

[Hopefully it'd eat up time enough for the weirdness to wear off.]

[She beams up at him] Of course! I’d be making it for you!

Really?

[He's clearly a bit surprised; he hadn't really expected anyone to make him anything.]

Well, now I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

Of course! Why wouldn't it be for you?

[You're her new Papa!]

Well, I dunno. I thought you were just making t to, well, make it. For something to do, you know?

[Please don't tell him that; he's not ready to be a papa! ~~Even if he kind of is one already.~~]

[She beams up at him.]

I could, but I’d rather make it for you.

Well then, I can't wait to see it.

[He's actually kind of touched; it's been awhile since someone made him something just because.]

You let me know if you need help with anything, alright?

[They did have the 'don't play with sharp things without supervision' discussion, didn't they?]

[No, but Jendayi is unaware of the existence of scissors and her Papa gave her a small knife to carry on her, so....]

[Anyway, what she's gonna do is start tearing the cards, so no worries there.]

You can't watch. [She's gonna shift around with her back to him.]

[And Woo is going to swoop over to get between his line of sight and her.]

[Lea chuckles as both Jendayi the drone move to block his view.]

Alright. Just lemme know when it's done, then.

Uh-huh... [she’s a little distracted.]

[About half an hour later she’ll come find him and present him a page full of ripped up cards, the colorful pieces arranged into a heart and stuck together with some kind of sticky substance she found. It’s...not glue, but it works well enough, whatever it is (egg whites and honey...)]

[She’s just gonna hold it up with a big grin on her face.]

[Lea grins and picks Jendayi up, examining the piece of artwork.]

This is great, Jendayi. Thanks. And I know just where to put it too.

[Because as every parent or pseudo parent knows, when a kid gives you a piece of handmade art? You put that thing on the fridge. And since Lea at least had the foresight to pick up a few fridge magnets, Jendayi's paper heart will be adorning the fridge for quite some time.]

You should burn it. Zombie banana peel.

I keep finding sarcastic ones. I think the miasma is trying to tell me I have no friends.

It's tempting, I'm not gonna lie.

[Though he might need the thing later, to reverse whatever weirdness was going on.]

Either that or it thinks you have a good sense of humor.

[Pause]

Hey... mind if I ask you something?

Pretty difficult bet. I know way too many people who can't take a joke.

[He shrugs at the question.]

Shoot.

I know a few people like that myself. Though I generally try to avoid them.

[He's sarcastic enough that people like that tend to be bad for his health.]

Have you noticed anything... weird happening with you since you started reading these cards?

[Maya groans at that pun. And makes a face.]

That one is pretty bad, yeah. I've seen worse. I've read a bunch of them,but that one is pretty bad. I mean, the one on the news was bad too.

[She smiled at him a little and held up a card of her own.]

How about this one?

[Lea chuckles.]

Yeah, I think they're all like that. Least I haven't seen any that aren't.

[pause.]

Hey... have you noticed anything... weird happening with you recently?

Weird? Like... what?

[Maya might be blushing a little. She was maybe thinking about Breakdown and his cute horns. When she next speaks it's quiet.]

Maybe a little.

[And that blush is all the confirmation he needs.]

Like suddenly having... feelings for someone you didn't before. Feelings that seemed to come right the heck out of nowhere, and don't make any sense at all.

Um... something like that.

[My the floor is interesting. It was hard to explain her out of left field feelings for Breakdown. But Lea had explained them pretty well, yeah.]

Something a lot like that, really. It started after I read some of the cards on the street. I mean... The news broadcast seemed kinda weird. But I didn't think too much of it. Then there were the cards on the street... and I read some of those and then...

[She shook her head.]

Is this sort of thing catching? Like the horns?

[She sounded mildly horrified at the idea, to be honest.]

Apparently so, cause it happened to me too. I don't think it's spreading from person to person, but the cards definitely have something to do with it.

[sigh]

I think the miasma's messing with us again. At least it's still sticking to 'really awkward but mostly harmless' like last time...
