But their antics reminded him enough of his siblings that it was with ridiculous ease that he simply took a moment to carefully stoop and scoop Sam, Hiro on her shoulders and all, to balance on his own shoulders.]

I'll explain. It made sense when we were on our way over. Y'see, some first guests don't bode as well as others, and a strange woman showing up is one of the worst. Since I'm strange---if not necessarily in that sense---having Hiro along and temporarily tall seemed like a good way to do a bit better than 'break even,' since the luckiest you can get is a tall, dark-haired man. None of this is necessary with The Spine checking every box, but a big part of first-footing is the fun of first-footing and so...! Yeah, here we are.

[Just gonna stroll on in like he's not carrying two people on his shoulders. And really it wasn't a new thing, just that they were human rather than robotic so really he could carry them for a good long while if they didn't want down.]
Figure why not really confuse the omens, be everything in one and see what the universe makes of that.
