It's a junior high class that covers the basics of cooking. Quartering a whole bird was something we did, but I don't really remember the how-to. I might not want to---amateur hour all over the place.

Sounds probable. Food, water, attention... And maybe having a hideaway for it could secure you some slack. If it had a little nook, it might shut up and go to sleep there.
