[Audio | Locked to Sam]

[Have an audio ping, Sam.  Sorry it's almost 4a.m.  Zero's concept of "organics need a lot of sleep" is still lacking.]

Sam?  You there?  It's Subzero.

Sorry to bother you, but I had a request.

[She chuffs, smiling and waving away his apology.]

Nah, nah, we're having this conversation now. This late it's actually a little less weird, and it's not like I've gotta be up for anything anyway. And so; the something I had in mind was the suggestion you go hit up the farm for samples, because farm animals poop a lot and they've got a good variety of animals over there.

If the farm and library fail to satisfy your curiousity... j'men calice, I'll give a shit. Why not? 'It's weird.' That's a reason, but it's not a good reason.

No big. Couple of things, though. [She sits up to stretch again, better this time, and holds up one 'wait a sec' finger as she yawns. At least Subzero will have his best view to date of her tattoos as he's waiting, since Sam's pajamas don't conceal quite as much as her street clothes.] First, can this conversation stay between us? Hiro will tease me forever otherwise. Actually, consider that a condition if the farm's... provisions just aren't enough. Also, a heads-up that if you ever decide you'd like to look at blood samples too, you're gonna have to hit someone else up. Long story, not an issue of what's socially acceptable.

Thanks.

[Sam shifts a little upon realizing she's just inadvertently opened a new tangent, but just flops back across her bed as she answers.]

It's a key thing in the transport of things an organic body needs---like oxygen---around the body. Fluid, usually red, packed with specialized cells, travels through veins and arteries such as you see.

[From where she's flopped, she holds up a wrist to point at the veins there.]

And when I say key, I mean key. A person can die of blood loss. A person, or, okay, anything with blood.

Not from me, anyway, though that's a purely personal thing. The human body is actually pretty good at replacing lost blood, and people nick and scrape themselves all the time---and bruise, bruise too. Just a sec.

[Sam shifts about to present her shin to the camera. There's a brightly-coloured bruise there, highly visible in spite of her tattoos.]

Banged it hard enough to break some of the smallest blood vessels, but without a break in the skin, it's just trapped in that area until it's healed up. No big, but high-volume blood loss, that's a bad scene. And the reason we have blood donation, which you'll probably find pretty interesting.

Usually, no, because it won't be staying there too long a time. When everything's working the way it should---and it's not, like, a ridiculous amount of bleeding making the bruise---the blood that's trapped there will kinda be broken down and reabsorbed. There's places where internal bleeding can cause some serious problems what with the pressure and the swelling, but bruises are generally just minor injuries. Even the worst of the normal ones. I've seen some impressive.

Someday you and I are gonna sit down and have ourselves a talk about scar tissue. And scabbing, too, because for all the scrapes and nicks and---

[She almost says 'shit,' but.]

---stuff it bounces back from, skin is amazing stuff.

Maybe tomorrow? ...today. In liiike...

[give her a moment to squint at the time]

Four and a half hours? I am gonna want coffee and Hiro won't be up that early so we can meet up and talk about giving a shit for science without him hearing about it.

[To Sam's credit, she was almost ready to head out, despite multiple snooze button smackings---a whole ten minutes after rolling out of bed. That's partially due to deciding she might as well wear her pyjamas out, but only partially; aside from dressing, she's got everything done. At the ring, she'll just shuffle over and open the window since that's quicker than going down to the door.]

Hey, g'mornin.

Just a sec.

[She steps away from the window to grab a hoodie off the couch, since the rest of Cybertron seems a little cool so soon after leaving her nice warm bed. Shoes? Forget shoes, she's already climbing over the windowsill---carefully!---and onto that offered hand.]

Sorry. Okay. How're you?

Yeah, decent amount. Not quite enough to roll out of bed without groaning, but enough. My sleep schedule's wonky with the time difference, anyway. With Earth's 24 hour days, it'd be like... bed at eleven or midnight, up around seven, sometimes sleep in another hour or two. Here, napping's necessary.

And oh yeah, on the topic of time? If nobody else filled you in on equivalent time stuff, one vorn is about eighty-three Earth years.

Didn't you already? We're cool, we're cool. I ain't even irked.

The tricky bit of business is getting used to the way time's portioned on alien planets. But, now you have a better basis for comparison.

At least I'm used to it now. The first few weeks I'd just say screw it, but to be fair, the first few weeks were all sorts of weird.

I think if you ever get the chance to see Earth, it's going to seem very, very busy with the seasonal stuff. A lot of the same sorta stuff you'll be able to observe at the farm here, but it's not quite the same as a chunk of wilderness with all its assorted stuff doing its own thing.

That said, where did we even leave off last night? Before breaking into another tangent.

Right. That. [pft.] I mostly remember. You're actually better off asking around for blood samples than, ah, stool samples, because it's not going to seem as weird---blood tests are pretty common for medical screening stuff, and I'd mentioned blood donations? You're going to have to ask someone else, though. Ditto if you decide you want hair, too.
