.02 || video

[The feed starts with Hiro, hands folded together, sitting at the kitchen table at his and Sam's apartment, giving one of those unnerving, somewhat maniacal grins he's so good at.] I have some important news. After weeks of planning and days of slaving away -- [It was fully a week, total, tops.] -- with the help of some benefactors whose names are hidden to protect their innocence -- [Jadewing, Irja and Wheeljack, who genuinely don't care about their innocence.] -- we have finished...

[Pause, for effect.] ...the thing. I trust those who wish to participate know what I'm getting at. [Another pause, then Hiro nods, satisfied with his mystery and the confusion he's likely going to cause, then moves to turn off the video feed. However, before he can, the chair on which he's seated is pulled away from the table and slid aside so that Sam can address the feed without having to talk over Hiro's head.]

To clarify, we---with help from Jadewing, Irja and Wheeljack, which we wouldn't've managed without---have finally finished setting up an outdoor theatre, and the first film we'll be showing will be Tremors, tomorrow night, as soon as it's dark enough. The set-up's situated in the Northwest, in a clearing not too too far from the hospital's Gateway. Those of you who can fly shouldn't have any trouble spotting it from above, and for everyone going in on the ground, a path's marked. Given the people who've expressed interest, we should have lots of room for everyone, so yeah. [She grins, shrugging at the camera.] Be there, or be square. And, oh, before I forget! When you are there, you'll be able to tune into the movie audio on a radio, if you have one. If you don't, or would rather not, you can get the audio on your drone by calling 606-43-11.

[...then, right before the feed is cut, there's a blur of a sock being flung at Sam's head, and an indignant:] I was gonna say that!

Big, burrowing, carnivorous monsters coming across a small town, much to its misfortune. It's not a really grim monster movie, though.

Still a monster movie, though. Sounds like it would be worth checkin' out. I'll head there tomorrow.

In my own humble opinion, the monster movies which aren't all that grim are generally better than the much-more-serious ones. It is what it is, you know? And it's like, a picture leaves itself a lot more leeway if it doesn't try to carry this great gravitas. If it's a quality feature---script, acting, execution---then a little humour helps the people feel like real people. No matter what awful stuff is going down, people will crack dumb jokes and find the funny aspects to deal. and if the movie isn't all that great, humour will help it, maybe mitigate the damage done by whatever string or shadow's in sight. But, I digress.

[Did she ever!]

We'll be happy to have you... whoever you are.

[It's said with a grin, and one eyebrow up---even Sam's formalities are fairly informal.]
