[Oh dear. Someone's not in Kansas -- er, California -- anymore. Far from it; Hiro has Awakened in the Northwest District, and finds all this nature and trees extremely unusual and disconcerting. He's grimy and confused and irritated and he's trying desperately to orient himself. Where's the city? Where are the buildings or the wind turbines -- you can see those from anywhere.

The little robot following him would be way cooler if it weren't for the aforementioned nature, and the fact that Hiro has to keep shooing it away and interrupting it's welcome message.] I don't need any aid, I need my friends to stop being jerks and cut this out! Can you not-- personal space, buddy!

[He swats at the robot again, muttering dark, age-inappropriate words under his breath and stumbling over the uneven terrain. He's so focused on how irritated he is with his friends, that he almost doesn't see the wild boar snuffling through the underbrush.

...until he trips over it of course.] Hey! Watch where you're--

That might be preferable. From what I gather, Unicron is like, robo- space-Satan.

[Hiro is quiet for a moment, taking this in.

Then, gloomily:] Guess there's no chance I can...take the next bus outta here?

It's honestly not bad being here, despite how some of it sounds, but... I'm sorry. No outs available.

[Wing very carefully touches Hiro’s shoulder with his free hand, Sam’s ‘stree-doo’ tucked under his arm.]

Chin up, Hiro. I know this isn’t where you want to be, none of us chose to come here, but it is a good place to be. It is unlikely that Unicron will wake anytime soon. I, for one, and doing all I can to help ensure he never wakes.

You’ll be all right here. Promise.

[Well, it does help that so far he's only met nice people. Have a hesitant, but encouraged smile, both Sam and Wing. ...also there's a giant robot touching him comfortingly on the shoulder which is so cool.]

I mean...I'm not totally sure what I'll be able to do, really, but...but I'll help however I can.

Hey, that's all we could hope to hear. [Sam smiles in turn, giving Hiro's elbow a friendly bump with her own.] And probably the best attitude to take,

[Wing nods.] Sam’s right. Being willing will go a long way, and stopping Unicron won’t necessarily mean fighting.

[You know what else is cool, Hiro? The giant ground bridge he steps up to. He taps in a few commands on the computer screen and the metal ring flares to light with swirling blue and green energy. Wing’s just going to step into that now if there’s no protest.]

[Hiro is about to question (and possibly pout) some more, but now things are lighting up and swirling and making noise and he's just going to lurch to one side and latch onto Sam's arm for stability.]

[She doesn't mind at all, having had some SERIOUS MISGIVINGS about going through a gateway the first few times, and some mild misgivings about going through a gateway... well, every time after.]

It's cool, it's cool. And by all accounts it's safe. I've asked.

[Wing smiles at them.] They’re safe. Promise. I’d not be using one if the Gateways weren’t safe for you to use.

[And so he steps through. And ends up in the middle of a city, right outside the Hub.]

[Hiro automatically lifts up his arm, defensively -- juuuust in case -- but once he's sure he isn't going to disintegrate, he'll peek out at the city.

Aaaand then of course be promptly overwhelmed with how cool it is.]

I want to say 'voodoo,' but it would be a blatant lie. Easier explanation [in more than one way] since I'm much more for the social sciences than the hard ones, but... still a blatant lie.

[He chuckles.] You’ll have to ask the ones who built it. Needless to say, lots of science and engineering.

[Uh-oh, you said the "s" word. Hiro will be definitely asking whoever built the gates for a detailed explanation.

But right now his stomach is giving a ferocious growl, and he's looking a little sheepish.] Uh...so. Is there a pizza place around here?

Sort of. They've got all sorts of other stuff, but their pizza is pretty good.

[Small wonder it was something Sam sought out following the failure of her message-sending ritual. Take note, Wing; the curative powers of pizza---especially cold breakfast pizza---are significant, at least where young organic Earthlings are involved.]

[He's starting to see a parallel here.]

We'll certainly see what can be gotten.

[And with that he'll turn for the Hub so they can eat. They're pretty much right outside it now anyway, so into the restaurant and over to a able built to accommodate both Cybertronians and humans. Same and Hiro sitting on one side in raised seats and Wing on the other.]

[A volunteer will bring menus for all.]

[...well, this is likely the strangest experience Hiro has ever had, up to and including the time he literally went into an alternate pocket dimension.

How do we pay for this? Is there space currency? Or are we still using the barter system? Do I need to go kill that pig for it's tusks?

[An important priority, wherever you go and whenever you are.]

We don't have to pay! Haven hasn't got any monetary system established.

Though if you really wanted to, you could probably bring the pig in to be cooked. Sausage, bacon, and victory on your pizza?

[He chuckles and nods.]

No currency. Much of what's needed is produced with the help of volunteers or arrives through temporal drops.

[Hiro is totally fascinated by this -- but not by the idea of going back to Scary Pig Forest, have a disgusted face, Sam.] I'll pass on that. I can do fine with just cheese, if I have to.

Temporal drops? What are those?

[So that's what the kids are calling it these days...? Sam just smiles.]

What, no pepperoni? They do have some in space... And as far as I understand them, the temporal drops dump stuff here the same way people get deposited.

[That said, she'll still look to the voice of experience (ie Wing) to elaborate on or correct her admittedly spare answer.]

[Honestly, Hiro had been assuming that they were totally sustainable and growing supplies in the fields and had been just about to resign himself to never having gummy bears again.] So pretty much anything can show up here?
