I think it had to do with their connections to us, the ones forged through their Glyphs that we all wore to keep the Lambda from driving us murderously insane. Except . . . I don’t think it always required having the body to do it.
I don’t remember if non-Cybertronians were ever killed and restored in the past. Nowadays, it's not the First-Forged anyway. At least, I don't think so. From what I understand, they're all dead. What I can tell you is whatever force is at work these days, whatever brought me back, does work on organics too. Jendayi was also killed by an explosion, and she's been restored.
